Welcome to 1&9 coaching
Welcome to 1&9 coaching
Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles from the Olympic Gold medal winning “Kookaburras” hockey team, have recently started their own coaching business which will benefit junior sports people across Australia. The numbers 1 and 9 represent their shirt numbers in the Australian team. Jamie has been voted 'World Best Hockey Player of the Year’ 2007 & 2004 and 'Player of the World Cup 2006'. Jamie has been recognized as one of the top 3 players in the world for 4 years now and is a captain of the National team. Mark has recently been voted ‘World Junior Hockey Player of the Year’ in 2007 and has also recently captained the Kookaburras.
After winning Olympic and Commonwealth Gold Medals, feeling the heartbreak of losing a World Cup final and enjoying the life of a professional hockey player in Holland, they now have a better understanding of what is needed to bring hockey to a higher level in Australia. From their experiences overseas they have learnt that young people benefit greatly from coaching clinics given by National Team players
Hockey in Australia is a very popular sport with 140,000 registered players. 1&9 Coaching Clinics work with 12 to 18 year olds and at this early stage of organizing these clinics they have attracted amazing attention in a very short period of time. 1&9 Coaching now have 15 clinics with 50 children per clinic, that is, 750 children, booked throughout Queensland in November 2007, January and February 2008.
The objective of 1&9 Coaching is to bring hockey to young sports people across Australia. Hockey is a great sport, however does not always attract the attention it deserves. By starting these clinics, they will not only attract a lot more attention and media towards hockey but it will also get the children of the sport more involved than ever before. Jamie and Mark have learnt so much from their experiences with hockey and they see this as an opportunity to broaden children's knowledge and hopefully give something back to hockey in Australia. They endeavour to enthuse the children about hockey and help them realise that their dreams can come true just like Jamie and Mark’s did.
